The School offers an excellent educational curriculum with an emphasis on the creative arts, music, and dance, as well as the academic subjects. Children aged between 2-5 years will be taught a Montessori based curriculum utilising the most important aspect of the Montessori method – its philosophy and approach. Children may begin in our unique “preparation” program for 2-3 years and then move onto the nursery section for ages 3-5. Parents and children are very welcome to visit us at Clarendon Montessori School for a tour and spend some time meeting the staff to view various aspects of our curriculum first hand.
At Clarendon Montessori School we aim to help children build the foundations for a lifetime of creative learning. The school ethos is built around basic and important principles. That each child is unique and that every effort should be made to help children develop to their fullest potential. The early years from birth to five are vital, and that children need every opportunity to strengthen positive attitudes towards themselves, others and learning during these years. From a solid background, they grow to be confident and competent learners for life.
Using the methods of teaching developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, we aim to provide purposeful and stimulating early childhood activities, which enhance each child’s growth and development. We believe that the early years are the most important time for exploration and discovery and that children need opportunities to create, play, make friends, gain knowledge and learn whilst having fun. At Clarendon Montessori School, we offer each child a warm and understanding atmosphere and a place to develop as an individual and as part of a group.
Our classrooms are large, bright, beautifully arranged and designed for the child’s comfort, security and enjoyment. In the preparation and nursery school sections, the activities are arranged on low shelving units within easy reach of even the smallest child. The children may work uninterrupted for long periods of time at tables or floor mats. The pace is unhurried and although the curriculum is structured, each child moves through it at his or her own pace. The children are free to choose activities, which capture their interest, and new activities are introduced, as each child is ready for them.

It is recognised that a child’s intellectual capabilities develop more rapidly from birth to 5 years than at any other period in their lives. This is the age at which a young child can absorb all information and knowledge without inhibitions. Children learn spontaneously and with joy, making it a period of great importance in their education. In light of this, we offer a unique “preparation” programme for children between 2-3 years.
The activities and materials in this group answer the special needs of children of this age. Great care is taken to show them how to work and play together, how to handle the materials to improve co-ordination and how to tackle problems in a logical, orderly manner, to help achievement and give a sense of satisfaction. Much effort is made to increase the child’s communications skills and vocabulary in a fun, enjoyable and encouraging way. As a part of the routine, every day the children have a story time, an organised art activity, and music/singing session.
The activities of the preparation programme encourage a transition into the nursery section of our school at age 3 years. The ratio of teacher to child is 1:6 to ensure maximum individual attention.
